THE ANALYSIS OF MODULATION FROM ENGLISH TRANSLATION INTO INDONESIAN IN W.W. JACOBS’S THE MONKEY’S PAW SHORT STORY

Translation has some procedures that are used by the Translator to translate from the source language into the target language. One of them is modulation procedure. When the translator used a variation of form of the message obtained by a change in the point of view, it means the modulation procedure has been applied in the translation. The writer will analyze the translation procedure by using modulation in the monkey’s paw short story by W.W.Jacobs’s.When the source language in the short story is translated into the target language , not all of the words can be transformed . To find what the procedure of translation is used in short story, a comparison (analysis) of the Indonesian and English version can be done.
There are two research focuses in this study. The first is how the modulation forms used as the translation procedure in W.W Jacobs’s the Monkey’s Paw short Story is. the second is how the modulation types used as the translation procedure in W.W Jacobs’s the Monkey’s Paw short Story is.
This study uses qualitative approach, descriptive design, and library research as its technique of data collection. The data sources of this study is the monkey’s paw short story by W.W. Jacobs’s and it’s translation. Then this study uses triangulation of source in order to check the validity of data.
The finding of this study shows in W.W. Jacobs’s the Monkey’s paw short story, there are fifty forms of modulation are used, fourty five datas show free modulation procedure and five datas show obligatory modulation procedure.
Hopefully it will promote to the readers and next researchers to always enrich their knowledge about the translation, especially the translation of short story analysis by reading and comprehending some books and researches about translation especially the translation text of short story and it’s analysing because it has many interesting things to be analyzed, then they hopefully will enrich their information that the translation of short story become a valuable thing that has meaning to be learnt in a real life.
