A SYNTACTICAL ANALYSIS ON SENTENCE STRUCTURE USED IN STUDENTS` DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITING AT THE FOURTH SEMESTER OF ENGLISH TEACHING LEARNING PROGRAM (TBI) OF STAIN PAMEKASAN

Writing is one of the important skills in English. It is the way of
expressing ideas, thought, opinion or feelings which need a correct grammar
and good order to be used. Writing is not easy to be done. It needs complex
comprehension for the rule of grammar, word choice, spelling, punctuation,
capitalization, and paragraphing. Grammar is needed to make a good
writing to describe thought of someone that exists in someone`s idea. This
thesis analyzes sentence structure used in students` descriptive text writing
that use an approach of syntax which portrayed in tree diagram.
In this research, there are two problems that the researcher wants to
discuss. The first is “ what are sentence structure found on students`
descriptive text writing? ”. and the second is “ how are sentence structure on
students` descriptive text writing portrayed in tree diagram? “. The objective
of this research is to find and describe sentence structure that are in
students` descriptive text writing.
In this case, the researcher used qualitative approach by using
descriptive research design. The data obtained by documentation. The
researcher collected the students` descriptive text writing, photos of student
activities, and the list of students` name. After which all data are checked
for validity by trianggulation.
Having analyzed the data, the researcher finally found one hundred
and and nine forms of sentence structure of the students` descriptive text
writing. From the students` descriptive text writing used as samples in this
thesis, grammatical sentece mostly appears rather than ungrammatical
sentence. Through the discussion, the researcher also found grammatical
errors are found on students` descriptive text writing such as the use of “s”
in main verb of simle present, the use of singular and plural noun, capital
letter, the use of “tobe” in simple present tense, the use of article in noun,
and the use of possesive pronoun.
Based on the result of research that the students is suggested to study
more about grammar especially the usage of simple present and it is the
better when the students have to write English at home that write down
diary, or taking-note. The lecture also needs to pay attention to the students
that do not only focus on the theory but have to ask them to write English at
home.
