EFFECTIVENESS OF GENRE BASED APPROACH FOR STUDENTS WRITING SKILL AT TENTH GRADE OF SCIENCE CLASS MAN PAMEKASAN

Genre Based Approach is a competence in the communication on
the written form which make someone to master every kinds of text. The
text uses the certain themes, language features, and context. This approach
become the media for the teacher to help the students in developing the
skill of communication by using the kinds of text which is different form
of spoken and written in certain context.
One of the students skill is writing skill. Writing is an activity
which explore the opinion and idea in the written form by combining the
fonts to create the phrases and sentences. The result of this writing is used
as the tool of communication with the readers. Therefore, the teachers use
Genre Based Approach to help students in developing their skill
particularly in writing.
There are two research focuses of this research. The first is do
senior high school student learning writing by using genre based approach
achieve better writing skill than those using conventional approach at
tenth grade of MAN Pamekasan? The second, is there significant different
of writing skill of using genre based approach on student’s writing skill at
tenth grade of MAN Pamekasan?
This research use quantitative research where the data is analyzed
by using statistical procedure. This research uses pre-experimental
research which is the kinds of experimental research. It is also consist of
pretest-postet. The subject of this research is the students at tenth grade of
MAN Pamekasan. The researcher take the sample in the science class
(IPA-5) which consist of 36 students. The research instrument are the test
and documentation.
The result of this research is there is significant different in the
students writing skill by using Genre Based Approach at tenth grade of
MAN Pamekasan. Data shows that the score of students from pretest is
different from the score of posttest. It proves from the result of t value
which higher than t table even in 5 % or 1 %. It means the hypothesis of
this research is alternative hypothesis which states that students learning
writing by using genre based approach achieve better writing skill than
those using conventional approach.
Based on the result above, it suggested to English teacher aid the
students to improve the students’ writing skill. The teacher has a important
role for the students to implemented kinds of approach, not only by using
conventional approach. One of apppoach that appropriate with students in
teaching process especially for teaching writing is by using Genre Based
Approach. So that, the students feel comfort and more anthusiastic to joinv
in classroom activities because this approach make them easily to
understand how to become a good writing.
