Language is one of the most important things in communication and it is used as a means of communication. As an international language, English is very important and has many interrelationship with various aspects of life owned by human being. Reading is one of important skill to be developed in English subject. The teacher expected to have anyways to develop it. One of important ways is making the students interest in reading, one of things that make the students interest to read is about English book.
There are two problems of this research. The first is do students of the tenth grade of MA Miftahul Huda Patapan Torjun Sampang, having reading interest of English book, have good reading comprehension. The second is how does statistically significant the effect of reading interest of English book on students reading comprehension at the tenth grade of MA Miftahul Huda Patapan Torjun Sampang
The research design of this research is quantitative research by using correlational research. This research has two variable, they are variable X (independent variable) and variable Y (dependent variable). Variable X is reading interest of English book, and variable Y is students reading comprehension. The population of this research is all of the students in MA Miftahul Huda Patapan Torjun Sampang that consist of 103 students. While the sample of this research is the students in the first grade of MA Miftahul Huda Patapan Torjun Sampang that consist of 36 students. The instruments that are usesof this research in collecting data are questionnaire, reading test and documentation. This research was done during four time, 16, 18, 24, and 25 January 2014. The research of data analysis used statistical method. The obtained data was analyzed by using product moment formula.
The result of research showed that there is no different between student who has reading interest of English book than those who don’t have reading interest of English book on the tenth grade of MA Miftahul Huda Patapan Torjun Sampang. It is proven from the result of data analysis that show the value of rxy is lower than rtable (-0,013≤0,329) in significant level 5%.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for English teacher to be able to make the student learn English more actively out of school. One of the way is ask the students many interest to read English book. It is suggested for the students at the tenth grade of MA Miftahul Huda Patapan Torjun Sampang to learn English more in their home and the students must improve their knowledge especially on reading comprehension.
